This event, organised by Norham Running Club, has taken place over the last 4 years and is intended more as a challenge than a race and a good day out for all. It is a 14 stage relay involving teams of seven runners. (yes two-legs each!!) It follows a course of 110.9km. Stage lengths vary between 6.3k and 10k, mostly about 7.5k, provided you accurately navigate the route. The challenge: to complete the course at running pace following the maps and instructions without getting lost. SO COMPETENT NAVIGATION IS IMPORTANT The route: Starting along the river Tweed to the coast at Berwick and down the Northumberland coast to Holy Island causeway, it then climbs steadily on footpaths and occasional roads to the Langlee Valley south of Wooler. Two stages cross the Cheviot Hills.to Kirknewton and another two foothills to Crookham. The course finishes by the rivers Till and Tweed back at Norham. It passes within sight of the castles of Norham, Berwick, Holy Island, Etal and Twizel and the hill forts of Yeavering Bell and Flodden Hill (hence the event name).
